Venatio means hunting in Latin. It was a type of entertainment in Roman amphitheaters involving the hunting and killing of wild animals. I loved westerns when I was a kid, at least as much as films set in ancient times. I guess one of the main reasons I love cinema is that it transports you to different times and to faraway places. I can still hear the chords of Ennio Morricone’s music in my ears, or I can see the chariot race of Ben-Hur if I close my eyes. Another amazing thing about cinema is that it doesn’t have boundaries. What if dinosaurs existed in ancient Roman times? I know it is crazy, but wouldn’t it be cool to see? Who doesn’t love dinosaurs anyways? Venatio is a personal project of mine where I try to imagine a bygone era in an unlikely scenario.
